Master & Commander
Alrighty, I fulfilled ony of my wishes on that list last night when I saw Master & Commander. I had some rather high expectations for the movie, since most of the people I've spoken to have said that it's really good, and generally speaking, Russell Crowe is a bad bad man (in a good way). So my thoughts? Well, I have to say I have mixed feelings about it. Overall the movie was very well made; both in terms of acting and directing. Although, I have to say, every time I saw Billy Boyd, I thought he was going to say something "shireish". I really like the way they portrayed the lifestyle of that times, the cruelty and whatnot. The way the whole crew was sleeping... the doctor doing the surgery [cringe].... But yes, a good set of characters and a pretty good story to boot. Why the mixed feelings? Well, for some reason, the film left me wanting and somewhat unsatisfied. Sure, they ended it well and all that, but there wasn't too big of a sense of triumph. That and the fact that almost the ENTIRE film consisted of ONLY men. I think there were women on screen for only like... 2 minutes. Oh well, still a good film overall. 7.5/10 (hey, that's good for me!).
Dave Matthews Band: The Central Park Concert
Well, it took a while to get here, but it was well worth the wait. I have the Folsom Field DVD too, which was really good, but I knew this would would be so much better. This was a lot longer than the other one too. 2h49min. That's a whole lotta Dave. But oh man... what a great concert. I only wish I was there to witness it. I think there was like 100,000 people in Central Park that night. Anyway, the DVD featured some songs I had only wished I could've heard live when I went to the concert back in September. Crush (my personnal favourite DMB song) and Grey Street were the two that really stuck out as the ones that I really looked forward to. Both of which were beautifully executed. Actually, the same can be said for the whole DVD. Man, these guys have way too much skill. The big different between this DVD and Folsom Field was that it kept all the little jam sessions they had and the solos too. Man, soooooooooo good. I really don't know what else to say about it. If you have an appreciation for good music, definitely check this out. I had some issues in a few places with the sound which I think couldn't have been helped, but other than that, one of the best DVDs I have, hands down. 9/10.
