School's on

The first week's over now and I've had a taste of what's to come. I have to say though, all in all it's not too bad. I've told a lot of you, but for those who don't know, I've switched my major from Honours Business Administration and Honours Computing (HBBA/HCCE) to Honours Business Administration and Honours Computer Science. What's the difference you ask? The computing program is geared more towards hardware whereas the comp. sci. is software. Both programs end up with the same degrees (HBBA and H. Sc.) but the comp. sci. program is much easier and takes have the work. Literally. Last year I had somewhere close to 30 hours a week of classes (brutal, yes, I know), but this term I only have 15 hours a week. I guess that's mainly due to the fact that I'm only taking 4 courses though. I would be taking 5, but one of the courses I'm taking this term I took already last year, so that cuts my work load down a bit. So, all around, no complaints. It also doesn't hurt that one of the courses is pretty much a bird course and doesn't take much effort at all (PC120, an introduction to basic electronics and gates). My other courses are Business 288 (Organizational Behaviour), CP213 (Object-Oriented Programming), and CP264 (Advanced Data Structures). They all shouldn't prove to give me too much of a challenge, so I guess there's no excuse for lousy marks. We'll see how it goes...

I also saw Once Upon a Time in Mexico today with some friends (read on, no plot spoilers here). I had some mixed feelings about it. First of all, it was pretty short, somewhere in the neighbourhood of 1.5 hours and secondly, the understanding of the plot depended a bit on whether or not you've seen El Mariachi or Desperado. My friends didn't like it as much as I did 'cause they hadn't seen the first of the trilogy (which was excellent, btw), but they still felt the movie by itself was ok. Johnny Depp was his usual charasmatic self, and carried much of the movie. Although, absolutely no one else can play the role of El Mariachi as well as Antonio Banderas. The other characters were sufficiently acted, but it didn't seem like the characters themselves developed very much. Anyway, the action was good and in true Mariachi form... kinda graphic though, earning it a solid 18A rating. No, not as bad as BB2, but still graphic enough. Overall I'd give it a 6.5/10 (worth watching, but doesn't expect the greatest movie).
