Free Textbook
Aight, so I'm in my PC120 class this morning, and near the end of the lecture, the prof turns to the class and says, "ok, since we have a couple of minutes left, I'll give you guys a question. Whoever answers first will get a prize. I'll give him... the book." "What book?" "Oh, the textbook." So now he has the attention of the entire class. You see, it's a first year course, so there's still a large amount of people in the class. So naturally, I didn't care enough to really try, so I closed my books and put them away. In the mean time, the prof's writing the question on the board, and it turns out to be much easier than I had anticipated. But again, I didn't care very much and casually thought about it. (Convert 0.151515... from octal to decimal. Like I said before, this is a bird course). So, having figured it out, I answered and got it right. SO... unexpectedly, I got a free textbook. I had actually bought it already, so now i get to refund it for the full list price ($150!). So yes... sweetness. And that's not even including what I sell it for next year....
I also had my first co-op meeting. Co-op here at Laurier works a bit differently than what you'd normally expect (since everyone sees co-op as Waterloo co-op). Basically there're 2 co-op programs here, business/eco and arts/sci. For normal arts/sci and bus/eco students, they have to apply and go through an interview process before they get accepted into co-op. But, lucky for us double degree students, we automatically accepted. So I basically get to chill over the next month or two while all the other bba students are prepping and worrying about co-op. The co-op coordinator for my program also said the going employment rate for co-op students here at Laurier is annually from 97%-100%, so that's pretty cool too. Last term it apparently dropped to 91% (due to the various economic troubles of Toronto), but hey, that's not bad at all. Looking forward to what jobs I can get.
