The post-reading week post

This is what's been going on for the past little while. I'll try to recap the best that I can, if I can remember....

LCCF Retreat
We headed over to Circle Square Ranch in Brantford last weekend for our annual retreat. I had been there once before with the NTCBC English Music Ministry, so I knew what to expect in terms of facilities. And yeah, they were pretty sweet indeed. Although we didn't have a wide open general space like last year at Camp Ganadoweh (sp?), the sleeping situation was a whole lot better. And it's certainly better than what UW had this year... hahaha... but you can ask Kenneth or something about that yourself.

The retreat itself was pretty good, albeit way too short. We didn't end up starting on the Friday night until pretty late due to many of the frosh having a late exam (what kind of school does that??? oh wait, we do). And because of the time it took to cook ourselves, much of our time was either cut short or pushed back. Having said that though, it was still a really good time to get to know some of the frosh a lot better and bring the fellowship closer together, as these things always do. Many lessons learned in terms of planning and whatnot, but it was overall still a pretty big success.

Softball
Yeah... for the past little while, I was contemplating what I'm going to do for the summer. (For the Woburnites that are reading this, no worries, I'm still playing for our rec league(s)). The issues were whether or not I'd coach the juniors and if not, which senior team I would play on, if any at all. Well, I've at least narrowed down my decision, in some part due to others. I will definitely not be coaching the juniors. After giving it some thought, I probably wouldn't have been a good fit for them this year. My coaching style... yeah, probably would've rubbed a lot of them the wrong way. Even though I really think they can benefit from some good hard work. That and the fact that they've already had a few other people say that they'd coach, so it's all good....

So about seniors then? I still don't know. Actually, I don't even know what's going on with the teams at our church anyway, so it's all still up in the air. It'd also be nice to know when DMB is playing at the Gorge Amphitheater so I can start planning my trip and summer around that. We'll see how things turn out....

Tobogganing
With the recent incidents of kids breaking their necks by crashing into trees whilst snowboarding in their backyards, we are generally more... cautious when sledding nowadays. Well no, not really, but we have it in the back of our minds. Instead of heading over to Havenbrook Park like we usually do, we went over to Elliot's place where he happens to have a hill in his backyard (bloodclaaaat). It's not as steep as Havenbrook, but at least the privacy lets us build whatever we want without having worry about how we might influence the kids around us to do stupid things too. The day (Saturday) had perfect weather and was fairly incident free, except for Mike having his face explode... again. It looks like this will be our hill of choice for the next little while, at least until we can find something bigger and steeper (e.g. Casa Loma). Here are a few action shots courtesy of Mike.

Me catching some big air...

No, that's not Mike's face exploding. That's Kenneth, Dennis, Elliot and I all going over the ramp... lol.

Aight that's all for now. Back to the grind....
