Observations and minor (... and major) annoyances

Just a few things that've been going on lately that have either caught my eye, or induced some level of aggro. You'd think that some, if not most, of these things are common sense. But then again, people have a funny way of defying logic.

Bikes
Okay this isn't really such a big deal now that it's winter, but it's still a problem, or at least a significant inconvenience.

The City of Waterloo very recently added bike lanes to the section of University between Albert and Seagram. It took them quite a while over the summer, giving most of us headaches in the mornings and whatnot due to the construction. But whatever, they needed to do it and the summer was the best time. So... why do people still insist on biking on the sidewalk??? I mean, the bike lane is literally 5 feet over. Ugh.

Sidewalks in General
Have people generally not been taught etiquette? Time after time I'll be walking down the sidewalk toward 2 or more people coming in the opposite direction. I do what any normal, sane person would do and move over to the right side of the walk leaving maximum room for the others to walk by without having to step on the grass/snow/mud/puddles/bear traps/whatever. More often than not though, the two people will see me coming and do almost nothing and continue walking side-by-side. Ummm... hello? You're not the only person that has to use the sidewalk. Be a little considerate or you might meet my dropped shoulder.

Shakers in Class
You know who you are. Stop doing it. It's annoying. Especially when you're in a row of seats that are connected.

Cell Phones (ironically)
Okay, it's bad enough when a cell phone goes off in class (it happened to me... but just once), but I seriously don't get some people. I was sitting in class last week and this guy's cell phone goes off. Okay, whatever, turn it off... right...? Apparently not. He proceeds to pick it up and start talking. In class. Who does that?? So, of course, the entire class is staring him down with the, "wtb are you doing?" look, and yet he continues. I'm kinda laughing at the ridiculousness of the whole situation at this point. Anyway, the guy sitting directly in front of him finally turns around and loudly say, "are you kidding? Take it outside!". He did and never came back.

Uggs
Lol? Seriously?

Fake Uggs
....

The Tim's Line
Some people just need to calm down, especially in places like the science building and the Peter's building where the line often goes across main traffic arteries. People are so concerned with moving up in the line and keeping their place in line that they're basically tailgating the person in front, thus either making people go around the line just get to their classrooms, or unnecessarily stopping to say, "excuse me" (if at all), to get through. Listen people, you can leave a little space in front of you. No one is going to bud in front of you. You're not going to get your coffee any slower.

Yeah I think I'm done now. I should probably be paying attention in class....

hehe in shanghai during class presentations our prof woke up from her nap (head down on the table and everything) to pick up her cell phone... yes, while remaining in the classroom... meanwhile, the other prof yawned loudly or snored. it was awesomely hilarious.
